My Approach

I believe that to engage in therapy is to embark on the process of mastery as you learn the language for your experiences.  The word “psychotherapy”comes from the Greek words “psyche”,meaning soul, mind, and spirit, and “therepia,”which roughly translates to mean to serve and/or treat. Psychotherapy is partscience and part art.  It is always relational, and a deeply personal process. It is an opportunity for you to understand yourself and your symptoms better, to discover new ways of interacting with the world, to learn new coping strategies, to organize joyful and painful experiences, to grieve, and to heal.  My work with clients and consultees aims to communicate the inherent dignity and value of the individual, as well as compassion and hope, by honoring all dimensions (e.g.affective, behavioral, cognitive, physiological, and spiritual, racial, cultural, etc.) of a person.  I am committed to providing a safe and secure environment in which we can develop a trusting, unconditional, and genuine relationship, in which I can help you direct your own resources and strengths toward health and healing.

I have a deep respect for all psychological theories and find great value in many of them. Professionally, I identify as an integrative psychologist.  I favor exploring issues from multiple perspectives and I am generally suspicious of dogmatic views and one-dimensional explanations.   My approach to therapy is both a technical and assimilative integration of Self-Psychology, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Humanistic Psychology, Attachment Theory, and contemporary trauma theory.

I enjoy working with individuals and facilitating group therapy.  In addition to working as a generalist, I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing(EMDR) and I am currently working on certifications for Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional, ADHD Professional, Group Psychotherapy, as well as a recertification for Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP).  Additionally, I am passionate about providing education and trainings aimed at suicide prevention.
