LGBT affirming with special interest in gay men and the coming out and living out process.
I focus on creating a therapeutic relationship that is cooperative, trusting and encouraging. I aim to create a safe, open environment for my clients to express their feelings and work through issues while feeling accepted and validated. I consider myself an active therapist that offers suggestions, tools and homework based upon my client’s needs. I use a client-centered approach to assist with identifying personal goals and action plans to meet them.
The therapeutic models that influence my work are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Family Systems and Solution Focused Therapy. I am a certified EMDR therapist (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) and hold a certificate in postpartum mood disorders through Postpartum Support International. I am also a founding board member of Postpartum Support International, Iowa Chapter.
