EXPERIENCE

I’ve always had a special interest and passion for the mental health field which led me to dedicating my entire nursing career to mental health. My experience first started in 2008 by working as a registered nurse on an adult inpatient behavioral health unit in Des Moines. I loved working in the inpatient setting, but after a few years, I wanted to do more for my patients and decided to advance my education and career. I have now worked in an outpatient, clinic setting for over five years providing medication management for adult clients from all walks of life.

SPECIALTIES

Depression, Anxiety Disorders, Mood Disorders, Thought Disorders, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorders (ADHD), Sleep Disorders

MY APPROACH

As a provider, I strongly believe in a collaborative approach. I will provide recommendations based on a client’s report, but I also value a client’s opinions, feedback and apprehensions regarding medication management. I believe if the process is felt more as team versus a provider-client approach, there is greater success for all. I am also a firm believer in providing thorough education on medications; indications for use, how they work, and possible side effects. I feel if a client has a better understanding of what to expect from medication management, there are less frustrations which provides a more positive outcome.

*Medication Management: Initial evaluations will be up to 60-minutes with 20-minute follow up appointments. Prescriptions and refills are provided during these appointments. If you need a medication refill, please contact your pharmacy. Plan to call at least three (3) business days ahead of the needed refill. A pending appointment is necessary in order to authorize refills. Frequency of appointments is individualized to meet individual health needs. Appointments can be scheduled through the 515 Therapy web portal (you will need a user name and password) or by calling (515) 402-4380. If you have a medication question, please message us through the online portal or call nurse Amela at (515) 402-4380. Please save any in depth clinical questions for our appointments together. You may leave a confidential message on her desk phone, and she will make every attempt to return your call within 24 hours. Urgent situations need to be directed to the emergency room or by dialing 911.
